Kenyan Market Job Search Tips

As you plunge in the job search market, get it straight that getting that dream job in the current market set up is no longer a walk in the park.

So many people have similar or even better education grades and job experience, as you have. Some even have awesome contacts or connections that more often, easily land them into those lucrative careers and jobs with little or no effort. The same job market has even branded some of your ‘competitors’ as those born with a silver spoon. They rarely struggle to achieve their dreams; in this case, their career dreams.

When Paulo Coelho wrote ‘The Alchemist’, one of his favorite and life changing lines was that…. When you really want to achieve something, simply make a decision then put in the required or necessary effort. The process of making the decision and the relevant effort will involve three things:
  •  Focus.
  •  Dedication/Commitment.
  •  Persistance.
Once you learn to master and use these three, then the whole universe will conspire to help you achieve whatever you wish. That nothing will ever stand in your way.

Invest in your Job Search – Everything Else Is Secondary.

Nothing can be gained on a silver platter. Remember the infamous saying ‘use money to get money’. However, the investment being indicated here requires both monetary allocation and time. Here are ways through which you can invest in your job search.
  • Register with relevant Job Search sites to receive timely relevant job adverts. This will save you time and money of either buying daily newspapers and magazines or even visiting company sites.
  • If possible, have your CV and even Cover letter reviewed by experts or even qualified people. Your first impression through any potential employer is through your CV and cover letter. Your CV and Cover letter should be eye-catching and should equally clearly demonstrate the correlation between the job requirements and your qualifications.
  • Every New Year, each country has certain change of trend in the way they do their business. Stay on top of what goes on in your country. Read and listen business news and articles; to get to know which new companies are setting up their base in your country. Get to know companies planning on expansion. Simply just don’t ignore any relevant news or event.
  • Start small. Sometimes the company you dream of working for might be in need of other alternate jobs; which you equally qualify for. Don’t ignore. Just send your applications and if lucky enough, start from there. It is very humbling to grow in a firm from the lowest rank way up. Do not be ‘choosy’.
  • If really interested working in a certain company, just notify the company of your interest to serve in any or a relevant capacity. You can do this through emailing the company/institution. You can as well drop in or even send your letter of interest (A cover letter showing your interest working for the company and detailing any relevant value you can add to that company). As you do this, always keep at the back of your mind that ‘The goddesses of good luck more often meet men and women of action at any given time’. Every Positive action must bear a positive end result:-this is equally the new rule of nature.Without contacts of connections, landing your dream job may be based on a probability.
  • The more you apply for relevant jobs, the more you increase your chances and the lesser you make the applications, the lesser your chances will be. This is where job search might look gloomy and saddening. Just keep on. Things are never permanent. One day, all this will be water under the bridge. Just keep on, and do not quit. ‘Opportunities always seem close when you are hardest hit.’
  • Lastly, always trust in the Lord. God created each and everyone in His own image and likeness. Everyone has a unique and definite destiny. Trust and pray for good health, protection and wisdom to conquer each and every day’s life predicaments. Equally, there are those life moments when you will need a source of inspiration, bigger than yourself.
